Building a Better Future: The Better Practice Collective. Raising the Bar in the Mental Wellbeing Industry - and Supporting Ethical Therapists, Coaches and Helping Professionals to Thrive

If you’re a coach, therapist, or helping professional, you’ve probably experienced the immense privilege and challenge of this work firsthand.

We sit with people in their hardest moments, guiding them toward clarity, confidence, and transformation. We offer a space for healing, insight, and progress. And we do it because we care - deeply. It's the most wonderful work - and it can be SO incredibly rewarding, in so many ways.

But it can also feel uncertain, overwhelming - and very lonely. Have you noticed that?

It's been something I've encountered in myself and fellow practitioners, ever since I first trained as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist in 2016 - and it continued throughout my challenging journey into face to face, and then online therapy practice.

Side note: as steep learning curves go, building an online practice was approaching vertical. Snakes and ladders definitely springs to mind - and I encountered more than a few very expensive, slippery snakes along the way!

I've been struck, over and over, by how ill-equipped many newly qualified - end even established practitioners - feel, out in the big, wide world. Trying to build a successful practice alone; overwhelmed by conflicting and often bewildering advice; wondering whether they should invest thousands in dedicated business support - and feeling totally disconnected from their own inner compass.

Because despite the excellent guidance some of us receive in training, once you're done... you're on your own.

There’s this huge gap between qualification and feeling truly competent and confident in practice.

If you're lucky, as a registered practitioner, you'll have mandatory clinical supervision - which can really help support and guide through the sticky bits and gives you somewhere to turn.

I know I've personally found supervision invaluable for all those questions and doubts - and even now, it's still wonderful to have a sounding board and non-judgemental, supportive ear when unexpected and challenging situations crop up (as they inevitably do - we're always learning in this game!).

But even with excellent clinical supervision, many therapists, coaches and helping professionals still struggle when it comes to the business side of things. It's not our natural territory; the thought of sales makes us shudder - and it can feel so hard to prioritise marketing and business planning when you want to pour all your energy and attention into your clients.

And times are challenging...

... more so than ever, perhaps, with global uncertainty and a booming, overinflated bubble of a wellbeing sector. Although we hate to say it, there are many who are in this for the wrong reasons - and plenty of others who think they 'know how to help' because they've personally experienced change - but have done nothing like the training they really need to, to be a safe pair of hands.

Meanwhile, many of the best practitioners are left, effectively operating in isolation - unsure whether they’re 'doing it right', and unsure of how to sustainably grow their practice in a noisy, seemingly saturated sector.

Let’s be honest - while we’re brilliant at helping others work through their challenges, we’re often hesitant to ask for support ourselves - and because many therapists, coaches and well qualified professionals are people-pleasers at heart, they still face self-doubt about their abilities, even when they’re exceptionally skilled.

Add to that the fact that the really innovative and effective tools and methods some of us swear by - like Solution Focused Therapy and my other go-to, IEMT - don't get anything like the representation and support they deserve - habitually being overlooked in favour of more widely evidenced and institutionally adopted tools with pretty poor success rates (CBT, for example, only makes a positive difference to 37-47% of subjects, compared to 78-100% as demonstrated in a recent study of SFH).

It feels like there's a long way to go - and it's only through our collective voice and confidence in promoting what we're doing, that we'll make a difference.

So, as a registered Solution-Focused supervisor (SF Sup (Hyp)) with plenty of years of business experience behind me (18 and counting...) - I've finally decided to do what I feel I was put here to do, and create the thing that's been nudging me, quietly, for all these years.

The Better Practice Collective: helping therapists, coaches & helping professionals to thrive

This isn't just as a supervision group, or a business support space - it's both, but it's more than that.

I want The Better Practice Collective to be a hub and community for practitioners who take their work seriously, care deeply about ethical practice, and want to raise the standards of our aligned professional industries together.

It’s a movement.

Why Good Practitioners Deserve More Than Just ‘Getting By’

As we've said, the reality is sadly that being a great practitioner doesn’t automatically make you a great business owner and doesn't automatically lead to a thriving practice.

And while we all know we need to market ourselves in some way, the options out there can feel... unhelpful.

Too often, therapists and coaches are either:

  • Left to figure it out alone, second-guessing every decision about pricing, marketing, and client attraction

  • Drawn in by expensive business coaches, only to find the advice is a generic “6-figure” formula that doesn’t fit therapeutic work (been there, done that!)

  • Told they should just ‘be visible’ on social media, without any real strategy, ethical consideration - or understanding of whether social media IS actually the right strategy for their business.

The problem is, most business advice out there isn’t designed for our industry. And as someone who's been through it, worked with both brilliant and less brilliant business 'experts', taken many wrong turns, fallen flat on my face, picked myself up more times than I dare to count - and finally realised that what was actually missing was right under my nose all the time... safe to say I know what works and what doesn't.

That’s why I want to support my peers and fellow practitioners, by offering high-quality business mentorship alongside solution-focused supervision - ensuring that brilliant practitioners don’t just survive in this field, but build the established, thriving, fulfulling practices they always dreamed of.

The Better Practice Collective: helping therapists, coaches & helping professionals to thrive

What Makes The Better Practice Collective Different?

At its core, The Better Practice Collective is for practitioners who:

Care deeply about their work and want to keep improving - not just ticking a box for CPD but truly striving for excellence

Value ethics and professionalism in an industry that can sometimes feel unregulated and unclear

Want to build a practice that aligns with their values -without feeling pressured to follow aggressive, outdated marketing strategies

Appreciate community and collaboration and don’t want to navigate this career path alone

Solution-Focused Supervision: Practical & Empowering

Supervision should about be more than just ticking a box for ethical compliance.

It should be a dynamic, supportive, and practical space that helps you improve your practice, grow your confidence, and strengthen your professional identity.

Solution-Focused Supervision is exactly that.

It isn’t about endlessly ruminating on problems or just analysing client cases - of course we support you with those, but it's about helping you move forward with confidence and clarity.

The Better Practice Collective Supervision Sessions will help you:

🔹 Refine your practice with a clearer sense of what’s working and what could improve

🔹 Feel more confident in your ability to navigate client challenges

🔹 Stay ethically grounded while also feeling empowered to make decisions that suit you and your clients

🔹 Develop a professional identity that aligns with your values and long-term career goals.

And because it’s practical, collaborative, and adaptable, it works for any practitioner, no matter their modality or level of experience. All we ask is that you're registered with a professional body who has a suitable code of ethics and conduct, and have up to date Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Beyond Supervision: Real Business Support for Therapists & Coaches (That Actually Works)

Alongside our group supervision sessions, we'll be running monthly business mentoring sessions to support your growth and help you build a sustainable, satisfying practice.

Growing your business in this industry isn’t as simple as following a marketing blueprint designed for the average online entrepreneur. You need to:

Understand how to attract the right clients - without feeling like you’re constantly “selling yourself” in a way that feels misaligned or uncomfortable.

Set pricing that reflects your value - without undercharging or feeling awkward about money

Learn ethical marketing strategies - that build trust, rather than relying on gimmicks

Manage the emotional side of business - because imposter syndrome, comparison, and burnout are very real.

This is why The Better Practice Collective provides ongoing business discussions, workshops, and a professional peer network - so you can navigate the realities of running a practice with clarity and confidence and build those all-important connections.

The Bigger Picture: Raising Industry Standards, Together

One of the biggest frustrations I hear from therapists, coaches and wellbeing practitioners is that our work isn’t always taken as seriously as it should be.

Clients are often bombarded with questionable wellness trends, unregulated advice, and a lack of clear guidance on what ‘quality’ really looks like. Many organisations don’t understand the value of skilled coaching and therapy, meaning brilliant practitioners aren’t always the ones being sought out first.

That needs to change.

As well as supporting your growth on an individual level, The Better Practice Collective is about shifting the way our wider industry is perceived and valued.

Imagine a world where:

  • Clients know exactly who to trust - because ethical, well-trained practitioners stand out

  • The best professionals thrive and gain visibility, rather than being overshadowed by loud marketing

  • The industry becomes stronger, as we lift each other up and hold each other to higher standards

That’s not a distant dream - it's the future we’re building.

Join Us and Take Your Practice to the Next Level
